Boiler Maintenance and Servicing

A central heating boiler needs regular servicing and maintenance to keep it working at top capacity. You wouldn’t expect a car to run without some attention, and your boiler works just as hard.

Companies offer different standards of service. When you are buying your boiler ask the installer and/or manufacturer what kind of after sales service and regular servicing they offer.

Then check with friends and neighbours to see if it measures up to the service they receive.

A visit by the service engineer should see him checking pipework and ventilation, as well as testing all the boiler functions. Electrical wiring also needs checking as do all seals and the boiler casing.

The pilot flame should be dismantled and cleaned, and readjusted if necessary, gas injectors should also be cleaned as should the heat exchanger.

Just a cursory glance and a quick test for gas emitted from any flue is not good enough.

A tip is to note down any problems you have had, it will help the engineer.
